The Kenya Space Agency (KSA), in partnership with Expertise France (EF), has successfully completed a six-day training on Tana Basin Watch, held at the University of Nairobi and Taita Taveta University.
This training has become essential for networking, sharing the results of assignments, and strengthening the impact of cooperation projects implemented by France.
Expertise France is the French public agency for international development cooperation. It is a subsidiary of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group and the second-largest agency of its kind in Europe. Our mission: to strengthen public policies in our partner countries in a sustainable way. Working alongside public actors, civil society, and the private sector, we design and implement projects that stimulate innovation and reinforce their actions to benefit everyone. Through our expertise in governance, security, climate, health, education, entrepreneurship, cultural and creative industries etc., Expertise France contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in over 140 countries, with public funding from French and European sources.
The hands-on training provided participants with a unique opportunity to learn about and make use of the Earth Observation Innovation Lab (EOIL). With support from trainers, participants gained practical experience in accessing and processing Earth Observation data, conducting data analysis and applying AI models.
The EOIL Initiative in Kenya represents a convergence of shared objectives and aspirations between KSA and EF, providing a strategic platform to deploy EO technologies in support of national development goals, data sovereignty and regional resilience.
This training was facilitated by our partner Expertise France as part of the Data Governance in Africa Initiative, which promotes data use to enhance policies, create value and drive innovation. It is funded by the European Union (EU), Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, and Germany and implemented in partnership with the African Union Commission.
