As part of the State visit of Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, to Russia from June 14 to 16, 2023, a Government Agreement for cooperation in the field of exploration and use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes was signed between the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and the Government of the Russian Federation.
This framework agreement aims to define the basic terms of bilateral relations in the field of space activities, the regulation and procedure for the protection of intellectual property, the exchange of information, the arrangements for export control and the protection of goods. exported, technology protection and other terms of joint activities.
Cooperation under this agreement provides for the development of the following areas of space sciences, technologies and applications; space communications and related services; satellite navigation and related technologies and services; space geodesy and weather; training and transfer of know-how in the space field; and the international legal regulation of space activity.
In addition, the Director General of ASAL took part on June 16, 2023 in a plenary session on the theme of space cooperation with the BRICS countries, under the 26th International Economic Forum of Saint Petersburg, organized by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Russian Space Agency “Roscosmos”, in which the heads of space agencies of the BRICS states, Indonesia and Malaysia took part.
He underlined in his speech the importance of the State visit of our President of the Republic in favor of the strengthening of space cooperation at the bilateral level between Algeria and the Russian Federation, and the possibility of extending this cooperation. to the BRICS and BRICS+ countries, due to the excellent relationship with the countries within this alliance.
He recalled that Algeria has signed agreements in the space field with certain BRICS countries, in particular the Russian Federation (government agreement signed on June 15, 2023), India (government agreement signed in September 2018), China (government agreement signed in December 2013) and South Africa (MoU signed in June 2018). With regard to space cooperation within BRICS+, he further shared the view of the implementation of some projects of common interests and the possibility of increasing our space capabilities by taking advantage of advanced countries in the space domain, namely Russia, China and India.
